Darlings, why not try your hand at this SUPA ujeqe recipe? Ujeqe is a traditional steamed bread and can be served on a wooden platter along with meat, curry or tripe.
You will need:
Supa Mama ® Cling Wrap
A heat-resistant bowl such as an enamel or stainless bowl for steaming
500g cake flour
1 teaspoon 5g instant yeast
3 teaspoons sugar
Pinch of salt
350ml – 400ml water, warm
Vegetable/olive oil (to grease your bowl)
To Make:
- Mix all the dry ingredients in any mixing bowl.
- Add warm water as needed and massage into a pliable bread dough.
- Cover the bowl with my perforated cling wrap (it will stretch to seal your dough) and leave to rise for about an hour, preferably in a warm place. The dough should double in size.
- Then, knead the dough a few times more.
- Grease your enamel or stainless steel bowl with oil and place your dough in it (don’t cover).
- Bring some to a boil in a large pot and carefully place your enamel or stainless steel bowl in the water. Steam the bread for about 30 minutes.
- Leave to cool before serving.
